Celebrities And Their Watches

If you pay close attention to celebrities, you already know that they wear many styles and brands of luxury watches. Sometimes they get them for free from various events that they attend. Others have a personal preference and that helps them to be able to find one that is unique and very impressive.

What you may not know is that there are plenty of celebrities out there making a killing just off of wearing a particular brand and model of watch. They are being paid by the manufacturer as a means of promoting that particular watch. What happens when they don’t comply?

Raymond Weil Ladies Watch
A good example is Charlize Theron, who had to settle a $20 million suit after she breached such a contract. She agreed to wear only Raymond Weil watches in public. When she was photographed wearing one by Christian Dior, it was hard for her to deny that she wasn’t taking that advertising seriously.

The fact that celebrities have such an impact on what consumers will buy is why that was such a big deal. She has fans all over the world, and you can bet many of them knew the watch that she wore and bought it themselves. It may sound crazy, but that is how the world of celebrity advertising is able to be so compelling and profitable.

What you will find, though, is that trends come and go with celebrities. They are in the business of getting attention to themselves and that attention can then be focused on new clothing, hair and accessories, including expensive watches. They often don’t wear the same thing all the time out in public, but you can bet they have favorite ones that get photographed often.

Cartier Tank Louis
The classy Tank Louis Cartier watch that is frequently worn by Angelina Jolie is one that gets plenty of attention because of the association with a popular celebrity. She has continually been voted one of the most sophisticated and classy women in the entertainment world. As a result, the Tank Louis Cartier watch has continued to increase in value because it is said that only a few people own them. Her following continues to grow based on her celebrity status and her humanitarian tasks that she freely participates in.

O.J. Simpson and the Rolex Submariner is another quiet celebrity endorsement of a watch that people have seen over and over again. It seems that he wore it often, and he was always in the spotlight after the death of his ex-wife and her friend, Ronald Goldman. While he was found not guilty of their murders in criminal court, the Goldman family sued him in civil court. The judge required him to turn over his Rolex Submariner that was to be worth a great deal, $22,000. However, what he turned over was a fake that wasn’t worth very much at all.

Perhaps this was his way of having the last laugh. It isn’t really known if he had a real one, and only used the fake one to turn over to the law. It was just one more controversy surrounding this ex-football hero. While his celebrity status is now questionable, he certainly had a following and a great watch to go with it when he was a celebrated football hero.

Tag Heuer 1500
Famous golfer Tiger Woods was the face of TAG Heuer for a good while, but they dropped him as a brand ambassador shortly after his marital infidelities came to light in November 2009. "We recognize Tiger Woods as a great sportsman, but we have to take account of the sensitivity of some consumers in relation to recent events," Tag Heuer CEO Jean-Christophe Babin was quoted saying.

It is fascinating to follow the ups and downs of celebrities.  We can also take notice of the ups and downs of celebrity watches, because now we know that the fame and popularity of a watch that rides on a very famous person’s wrist will enjoy amazing popularity with the public which results in big sales for the watchmakers as well.
